Word emanating from the world of F1 suggests Michelin Tyres are in advanced negotiations with the FIA regarding a dramatic return to F1. Michelin Managing Partner, Jean-Dominique Senard, is said to be holding “formal discussions” with the FIA regarding the possibility of Michelin returning as a tyre supplier to formula 1 for the 2011 season.
The discussions between Michelin and the FIA are said to be focused on highlighting the benefits the tyre can bring with better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions. Michelin are also believed to have requested the release of technical data from Bridgestone F1 Tyres for comparison.
Michelin have vast experience in F1 after supplying tyres for almost three decades before quitting in 2006 following the FIA decision to appoint Bridgestone Tyres as sole tyre supplier ending competition between tyre manufacturers.
